1962 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 Coupe

• First registered in Jersey in 1962 to Group Capt. Harrison before ownership was transferred to Lester Torode in 1964, a motor dealer, car collector and racer of some repute from Guernsey. The registration number at that time was ‘16000’
• Originally Opalescent Silver Grey, upon arrival in Guernsey the E-type was repainted OEW which was deemed a more sporting colour scheme giving an enhanced background to sponsors logos and race numbers
• A familiar sight, in period, at race and sprint circuits in the Channel Isles and further afield
• Desirable upgrades include Restall seats fitted by Lester in period, a later 4.2 all-synchro gearbox, Coopercraft Brakes and a stainless steel sports manifold and exhaust system
• Imported to the UK in 1976 and now finished in Carmen Red with a Black interior
• Celebrity appearances courtesy of Top Gear when it was driven by the late Norman Dewis who signed photographs and the car's sun visor in appreciation of his day, and these remain with the car
• A comprehensive history file accompanies the car containing details of its time in Jersey and Guernsey, a Heritage Certificate, various invoices and MOT Certificates, photographs, magazine articles and an original handbook.
• Full engine rebuild by Anderson Racing Engines in Bath carried out in 2012 including a balanced crank, flywheel, clutch assembly, pistons and conrods

TSV 785 is an early E-Type with an interesting past, being first registered in Jersey in 1962 before passing into the hands of Lester Torode in Guernsey two years later. Lester was a well known and much respected motor dealer in the Channel Islands whose passion was hill-climbing and sprinting and so a period of competition use followed for the 3.8 Coupe. More recently, the driving experience has been enhanced with the fitting of a later 4.2 all-synchro gearbox, Coopercraft brake calipers and a stainless steel manifold and exhaust, all done just in time for an appearance on Top Gear driven by none other than the famed Jaguar test driver, Norman Dewis, with photographs of the momentous day still present in the accompanying history file.
